How to Dream Big as an Engineer: National Engineers Week

National Engineers Week is a week that is devoted to celebrating engineers and all of the awesome things that engineers have accomplished.  All around the country, colleges and universities celebrated Engineers Week with various activities throughout the week.  Purdue celebrates National Engineers Week a little later in the year, usually in March or April; that’s ok though because that just means engineers at Purdue get to have two weeks devoted to them! This year the theme for National Engineers was “Dream Big”.  To celebrate this theme, National Engineers Week is promoted a new film, Dream Big, that showcases the impact that engineering has had on the world and our lives.  I think that the theme was an excellent choice, because as engineers the sky is our limit and we really can dream big.  With a degree from Purdue University, you will have the skills and talents to really create some ama...

5 Ways to Cut the Cost of College

Image
Between tuition, room & board, and books, figuring out how to afford a college education can feel like trying to jump through hoops.   Luckily, Purdue WIEP has advice to help you get your feet off the ground! College Funds on Display! 1. Look for Value—Consider student debt and alumni salaries when looking at colleges.   For example, Purdue was included in Princeton Review’s Top 200 “best value” colleges because of Purdue’s commitment to “affordability, accountability, and quality” (President Mitch Daniels). 2. Brag Away—When applying for scholarships, make sure to include all of your passions and accomplishments.   Now’s the time to show the scholarship committee why you deserve that award! 3. Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop—Continue applying for scholarships after you get to school.   Many scholarships are available for current undergraduate students, and you can see some that Purdue has to   offer on their Scholarship page . 4. File the FAFSA—Make sure to complet...
