A great way to get involved on campus is through the various car clubs that Purdue has to offer. Not only are you gaining valuable experience with working in a team, members of these clubs are designing and building something that is directly related to engineering and their interests. By participating in the building of a car, one can learn everything from the technical skills of machining various parts to soft skills of project management and communication.                         Some of the major car clubs on campus include Purdue Baja Racing, Purdue Formula SAE, ChemE Car and Purdue Electric Racing.            There are several fun Purdue traditions to take part in during your time on campus! One of the most famous examples is a fountain run, which primarily take place in the fall at the beginning of the school year.   Students run through the fountains on campus, including Loeb fountain, Memorial fountain, the lion’s head fountain, and the engineering fountain.   Fountain runs are great ways to cool off in the summer, bond with friends, and prepare yourself for a new year at Purdue!   The lion’s head fountain is one of the stops on the fountain run, but also presents another Purdue tradition in and of itself.   According to legend, drinking from each of the four lions’ heads will grant you good luck on your next exam. It's Thanksgiving season, where everyone takes the time to sit back from the craziness of college and remind themselves what they are thankful for.  Purdue is something that I am so thankful for! From hanging out with friends to taking exams, I know that everything at Purdue is going to help us out so much in the long run and shouldn't be taken for granted.  Here's some top reasons why I'm thankful for Purdue: 1. Looking for leadership opportunities within engineering at Purdue? There are plenty of them, one of the most popular  options is to  be come  an Ambassador in the College of Engineering.  There are a few different ways in which students can become ambassadors at Purdue! 1) Global Engineering Ambassadors Ambassadors for Purdue’s Global Engineering Program interact with both current and prospective students. In addition to presenting at student fairs, they are involved in various Global Engineering events .  This includes participating in the  annual I2D Expo and hosting international visitors on campus. As  a bonus , ambassadors who participate in at least 10 events each semester will be awarded a $250 travel grant that can be applied to a study abroad program or to a conference for professional development. At Purdue, there are many ways to give back to the community.  One of these is the EPICS program.  EPICS stands for Engineering Projects in Community Service; however, anyone is allowed to join an EPICS team, even if they aren’t in engineering!  Within the EPICS program there are over 40 teams with over 700 students across all disciplines.  Therefore, everyone is able to find their place with the EPICS program.  Everyone has a different experience of how they joined the EPICS program.             As a freshman, I was a part of the EPICS first year learning community. This meant I was enrolled in the EPICS First Year Engineering (FYE) course instead of the traditional FYE course.  After being placed on an EPICS team with students of all different skill levels, a team breaks up into subteams. As a Purdue Engineer, there are various opportunities to excel academically outside of class. One such opportunity is getting involved in undergraduate research. Engineering students are able to experience this in several ways. Every engineering discipline offers a variety of research fields to their students with hands-on experience and exposure to the research process and tools for solving real-life problems. The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at Purdue offers a unique prospect for research, known as Vertically Integrated Projects. Under this program, an ECE student can choose from several teams to work on a project under a professor. Examples of different projects include analyzing data from network cameras from all around the world, develop a visual analytic system based on sensor data using front-end technologies or create Purdue’s own System-on-a-Chip.
