Student Spotlight: Megan Hetisimer Major: Mechanical Engineering Graduation Date: Fall 2018 What is your favorite part about Engineering? My favorite part about engineering is being able to take a complex problem and break it up into smaller pieces to solve it. Problem solving is such a powerful skill and will make you valuable in any industry you choose to go into to! What is your favorite class you have taken and why? My favorite class I've taken so far is either Thermodynamics or Machine Design. I'm more of a big-picture thinker who needs to visualize what I'm working on and I feel like both of those classes fit my way of learning well. I also really liked learning about the practical applications of what I was doing in the classroom and seeing how I would apply it in industry. ECE 270 is my favorite class because it focused on the application of topics taught in lectures. In labs I was able to do hands on work to create programs and write code using knowledge I learned in class. What is the best thing about Purdue? They are so supportive and I have really gro wn close to my peers in ChemE. What is the best thing about Purdue and/or why? The atmosphere! Everyone is filled with so much spirit and Purdue pride. You learn how to be a technical/critical thinker and an efficient problem solver. The skills you gather are applicable to almost any field in industry and other occupations. What is your favorite class you have taken and why? My favorite class I have taken has been GS 177 (Study Skills Seminar) with Miss Brenda Downing. I learned so much about my study habits and how to integrate self-care in my schedule. Every time I left that class, I left with something new to apply to my student-life.
