PROFESSORS OF PURDUE: Brie Lawson Graduate Teaching Assistant and Biomechanics research phD candidate at Purdue University Passions: Loving and having a relationship with the Lord and sharing Christ’s love with others Been riding horses since she was eight and has a close bond with her current horse “I gave my life to the Lord when I was young. Knowing Him and experiencing His unconditional love has caused me to love other people, and that’s such a sweet aspect of my work here as a TA.” "I’ve always loved horses, but my parents told me I couldn’t have a horse until I graduated college. When I was eight, and I still hadn’t outgrown the “I love horses” stage, my parents let me take riding lessons. Six years later, God changed their hearts and they decided to buy me my own horse. It has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. I’m 24 years old, and I still haven’t outgrown the “I love horses” phase. " "Being at the barn is my escape. Just b...

“There are tons of resources at Purdue aimed at helping you succeed, it’s up to you to take advantage of them.” I’m willing to bet that if you have told anyone you want to study engineering you’ve probably heard “Woah, engineering is hard.” or “You must be really smart.” I have heard different variations of that statement countless times. It’s absolutely true, engineering is not easy. It’s also true that if you’re willing to put in the work, pursuing a degree in engineering is absolutely worth it! I graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor’s of Chemical Engineering in May 2014. I began my career at Tate & Lyle as a Production Engineer where I was fortunate enough to be sent to Sweden several times to work as engineering technical support for startup of an oat processing plant. I currently work at Solvay as a Process Engineer making polymer resins for aerospace carbon fiber applications. When I was at Purdue I was president of the Society of Women Engineers and the Professional Practic...

My TL Buddy and our new students at the Block P! As a freshman, Boiler Gold Rush, our new student orientation program, was an amazing way to meet people in my residence hall, learn about campus, and increase my confidence going into college. Through interest sessions, team bonding events, and inclusive discussions, my experience allowed me to feel comfortable finding a new home at Purdue. Boiler Gold Rush really sets Purdue apart, as you can clearly see how much the Team Leaders care about the success of their new students. My BGR group when I was a new student in 2016. Because of this great experience, I applied to be a Team Leader for Boiler Gold Rush 2017, and it was truly incredible. As a Team Leader, I trained with a group of peers, and we learned from supervisors who were team leaders the year before. During BGR 2017, my school spirit increased even more, and it was helpful to have this group of team leaders to reach out to throughout the experience. ...
